The annual HIMSS Conference is quickly approaching—it will be held March 11–15 in Orlando, Florida. The event brings together more than 40,000 healthcare professionals from around the world for networking and education opportunities.
As always, Dimensional Insight will be there on the show floor. Here’s what attendees can expect from this year’s conference.
AI takes center stage
2023 was the year of “Barbenheimber,” the Eras and Renaissance tours, and artificial intelligence (AI). When ChatGPT came onto the scene, businesses started to see the possibilities of how they could use AI, and talk around the technology exploded.
A quick search of the HIMSS24 agenda shows nearly 70 sessions focused on AI. The key for healthcare professionals is being able to cut through the hype and recognize what technologies hold true promise, and which ones are just all talk and no substance.
Dimensional Insight is holding a breakfast briefing on Wednesday, March 13th from 7:15–8:30 a.m. titled, “Breaking Down Data Barriers with Interoperability, Governance, and AI.” We’ll not only be talking about the potential for AI in improving outcomes, but also provide you with a real-world example of how our customer University of Connecticut is using AI to reduce teen suicide.
In addition, nearly all the keynotes at HIMSS are focused on AI in some capacity. It is certainly the topic du jour at the show!
Managing the unique challenges of the last few years
While AI certainly has all the buzz at HIMSS24, there are a lot of other topics on the minds of attendees. A recent survey by the American College of Healthcare Executives (ACHE) shows that “workforce challenges” and “financial challenges” topped the list of CEO concerns in 2023. That means that technology leaders will be looking for solutions to help ease the burden in those areas.
Other areas that tech leaders are focused on and that are dominating a good chunk of the HIMSS agenda include:
- Interoperability
- Data governance
- Health equity
