Dimensional Insight was thrilled to exhibit at HIMSS23 in Chicago April 17-21, one of the first major in-person healthcare events since the start of the pandemic. The conference generated a palpable sense of excitement and energy, with attendees eager to connect and share their knowledge. It was a fun week filled with meaningful connections and insightful educational opportunities. Here are some of our main takeaways from the event:
Palpable in-person event energy
This year’s HIMSS conference felt like a return to pre-COVID times, with the event buzzing with activity, and the exhibit hall full of people eager to explore the latest healthcare innovations. HIMSS reported that the attendance was roughly 35,000—which is not quite up to pre-COVID levels, but is getting close. The networking at this year’s event was unparalleled, and it was a refreshing change from years of virtual meetings. In particular, our team was excited about:
- Monday night’s opening reception
- Tuesday’s HIMSS New England Chapter Social
- Wednesday’s Exhibit Hall Social Hour
The energy on the show floor was awesome and it was fantastic to see people attending in-person events again.
Emphasis on digital innovation in healthcare
One resounding theme in many of the educational sessions was that innovation is essential for progress in healthcare. Speakers emphasized how nearly every industry is automating and transforming, and while healthcare is seeing progress in this realm, we are still behind. HIMSS23 highlighted the importance of leveraging technology to provide more accessible and efficient care to patients. The conference also showcased how cutting-edge technologies like artificial intelligence, machine learning, and analytics can help healthcare organizations make more informed decisions and improve patient outcomes.
Spotlight on health equity
Another notable theme at HIMSS23 was the focus on health equity. Speakers and exhibitors alike highlighted the importance of addressing disparities in healthcare, both in terms of access and quality. Sessions featured everything from a birds-eye view of how to weave equity into the fabric of organizations to more granular topics, like data justice and ensuring equitable practices in health informatics. As the industry continues to evolve, it’s vital to ensure that all patients receive equitable care, regardless of their socioeconomic status or background.
Memorable experiences
HIMSS23 was full of unique and memorable experiences, from the Anti-Cruelty Society’s Puppy Park, where attendees could play with adorable puppies, to the receptions and social events that provided ample opportunities for networking and connecting with like-minded individuals. These events not only provided a fun break from the conference’s educational sessions but also fostered a sense of community and camaraderie among attendees.
Dimensional Insight at HIMSS23
As an exhibitor, Dimensional Insight had the opportunity to showcase our healthcare analytics platform and connect with other industry professionals. Our booth generated significant interest, with attendees eager to learn more about the platform’s capabilities and how it can help drive better outcomes for patients.
We also hosted a breakfast briefing on the first morning of the event, which was well-attended and provided a forum for discussing how to elevate enterprise analytics and fill gaps in EHR data. We were excited to connect with like-minded individuals and explore opportunities for collaboration.
