Adding a Portlet to a Page

Before you add a portlet to a page, you must identify the data source and type of portlet that best suits your needs.

  • The format of the page determines how the portlet instances are arranged when they are added.
    • For fixed layouts, there is a default starting location, and then additional portlet instances are added below.

    • For a manual layout, the first portlet is placed in the upper left corner (location 0,0 px). When you add new portlets, they are stacked over the existing portlets and offset slightly.

  • You can reposition the portlet instances within the rules of the current page layout.
  • When you add a portlet to a page, the size of the portlet container that appears can vary, depending on portlet type.
  • A page can contain portlets that reference files located in different projects.
  • You can resize the portlet instances in an unlocked page.

  • When editing a page, you can temporarily hide portlets, and then unhide them by clicking the eye icon Eye icon. on the toolbar.

To add a portlet to a page:

  1. Browse to the page on which you want to add a portlet.

  2. On the DivePort Closedtoolbar, click Edit to unlock the page and enable edit mode.

  3. Do one of the following:

    • Right-click on the page body.

    • On the toolbar, click the chevron.

    TIP: If you double-click an unlocked page, the Add a Portlet page opens directly.

  4. Click Add a Portlet.

  5. Select a portlet type from the gallery, and then click OK.

    TIP: If you know the type of portlet that you want to use, you can use the search box to narrow the choices on the list.

    The portlet creation wizard advances to the next page.

  6. Assign settings to the portlet.

  7. To preview the new portlet on the page, click Apply.

  8. To add the portlet to the page, click OK.
    The portlet appears with a rectangle overlay.

  9. Click the portlet to select it.

    The Closedoutline color turns blue, indicating that you can move or resize the portlet.

    • You can perform a drag-and-drop operation to move the portlet to a different location on the page.

    • To move a portlet in precise increments, select the portlet, and then press Shift plus the arrow keys.
    • You can resize the portlet by clicking one of the resizing nodes on the blue border, and moving the pointer while holding the mouse button down.

    • Alternatively, you can edit the position and size using the portlet Settings Closeddialog box, available on the portlet context menu.

  11. On the toolbar, click Save to exit edit mode and lock the page.

NOTE: Pages can contain an unlimited number of portlets. However, to ensure legibility, DI recommends that you limit the number of DivePort screen elements.
