Creating a Named Group

A named group can be defined by selecting dimension values; or if the dimension is a date or time period, the named group can be defined by a range of values. Named groups are stored in a DivePlan.

NOTE: When creating a named group using a range of time, you specify a starting point and an ending point. These points are inclusive. The starting and ending points can be specific dates or they can be relative to the current date, which is defined as the latest date in the DivePlan. The start and end points do not have to be the same type. For example, you can create a YTD named group with a specific date, such as January 1, as the start date, and a relative date, such as Today, as the end date.

Creating a named group from a tabular display using dimension values

Double-click the header cell on a blank column.

The Add column dialog box, Definition tab opens.
Click Named Groups.

The Edit Named Groups dialog box opens.
In the Group Name box, enter a name for the named group.
Select the dimension that you want to use to create the named group from the Group Dimension list.
In the Define Group By box, select Values.
Select the values that you want to include in the named group from the Values list, and click >> to add them to the Selected list.

Alternatively, select the values that you want to exclude from the named group from the Values list, click >> to add them to the Selected list, and then select the Exclude Values check box.
Optional. If you want to add a value to the named group that does not currently exist in the dimension, enter the value in the Entered value not in data box, and click the adjacent >> button. For example, if you are creating a date-based named group, you can add future dates. This allows the named group to remain useful when new data is added later.
Click Add group and close.

The new named group is listed in the Add column, Definition tab, Named Groups box.
Click Cancel to close the Add Column dialog box.

Creating a named group from a tabular display using a specific range of dates

Double-click the header cell on a blank column.

The Add column dialog box, Definition tab opens.
Click Named Groups.

The Edit Named Groups dialog box opens.
In the Group Name box, enter a name for the named group.
Select the date dimension that you want to use to create the named group from the Group Dimension list.

The Edit Named Groups dialog box changes to provide date range options.
If necessary, in the Define Group By box, select a Range type.
In the From section, select Date, and select the start of the range from the adjacent list.

Alternatively, you can enter a date manually, but the format must exactly match the date dimension. You can add any valid date. It does not need to be in the cBase or model.
In the To section, select Date, and select the end of the range from the adjacent list.

Optional. Select a year from the Year list in the From and To sections.

NOTE: This setting overrides the year value in the Date box if they differ.
Click Add group and close.

The new named group is listed in the Add column, Definition tab, Named Groups box.
Click Cancel to close the Add Column dialog box.

Creating a named group from a tabular display using a relative range of values

Double-click the header cell on a blank column.

The Add column dialog box, Definition tab opens.
Click Named Groups.

The Edit Named Groups dialog box opens.
In the Group Name box, enter a name for the named group.
Select the date or period dimension that you want to use to create the named group from the Group Dimension list.

The Edit Named Groups dialog box changes to provide range options.
If necessary, in the Define Group By box, select a range type.
In the From section, select Current, and then:
- If the group dimension is a date, in the adjacent text box, enter a number of days to offset the current date. For example, if you want the start of the range to be three weeks ago, enter -21. If you want the start of the range to be the next day, enter 1.
- If the group dimension is a period of time, enter a number of periods to offset the current time period.
In the To section, select Current, and then:
- If the group dimension is a date, in the adjacent text box, enter a number of days to offset the current date. For example, if you want the end of the range to be three weeks from now, enter 21. If you want the end of the range to be the today, enter 0.
- If the group dimension is a period of time, enter a number of periods to offset the current time period.
Optional. Select a year from the Year list and a corresponding offset number in the From and To sections.
Click Add group and close.

The new named group is listed in the Add column, Definition tab, Named Groups box.
Click Cancel to close the Add Column dialog box.

Creating a named group from a tabular display using a specific range of time periods

Double-click the header cell on a blank column.

The Add column dialog box, Definition tab opens.
Click Named Groups.

The Edit Named Groups dialog box opens.
In the Group Name box, enter a name for the named group.
Select the period dimension that you want to use to create the named group from the Group Dimension list.

The Edit Named Groups dialog box changes to provide range options.
If necessary, in the Define Group By box, select a range type.
In the From section, select the period label that you want to use, such as Quarter, and select a period value in the adjacent box.
In the To section, select the period label that you want to use, such as Quarter, and select a period value in the adjacent box.
Optional. Select a year from the Year list and a corresponding offset number in the From and To sections.
Click Add group and close.

The new named group is listed in the Add column, Definition tab, Named Groups box.
Click Cancel to close the Add Column dialog box.
