Working with Workbench Connections

To create a new connection:

1. Click File > Open Connection.

   NOTE: If this is your first time opening Workbench, the Quick Connections dialog box opens. Select the Always go straight to the Connection Manager check box to skip the Quick Connections dialog box in the future. This can be reconfigured.

   

2. Click the Connection Manager button.

   

   The Connection Manager dialog box opens.

   

    

3. At the top right of the dialog box, click Add Connection.

   

   A <New Connection> entry appears under Name, and an empty Connections Details panel displays at the bottom of the Connection Manager dialog box.

3. Enter details for the connection in the bottom pane. For example:

   

   See the following list for the details.

4. Click Connect.

NOTE: If a wrong username or password is saved in Connection Manager, Workbench will prompt you for correct credentials. When you enter the correct credentials, Workbench offers to save them.

Connection Details

• Host—Enter the server name or an IP address to connect to, including the port number separated by a colon. The standard format is <server name>:<port number>. Check with your system administrator for this number.

  NOTE:

  • What you enter here is duplicated in the Connections list pane above and becomes the connection name (unless you also add a label).
  • If you need to connect to a server for DiveTab development, enter the URL to the specific instance of a DivePort created for that purpose.

• Label—Optionally, enter a label for this connection (recommended).

  NOTE: This label overrides the text entered into the Host field for the connection name as it displays in the Connections list pane.

• User name —Enter the user name for this connection. If no name is provided here, and authentication it is not Web Server, the login dialog box appears when opening the connection.

• Password—Optionally, enter the password for this user and connection. The password is encrypted using Windows Data Protection API. If no password is provided here, and authentication it is not Web Server, the user will need to provide a password each time the connection is made.

  NOTE: When the server is configured for Web Server authentication and no credentials are stored, authentication proceeds normally via the DLCGI object. However, if a user has authentication override set to OWN on the DiveLine server and the userid and password are stored in the connection manager, those credentials are used for the login to DiveLine, by-passing the web authentication.

• Connect on startup—Select this to have the connection login on startup (defaults to False). If credentials are missing when a login attempt is made, an error message displays on the Start Page under the Default connections area.

• Tab Color—Select a color from the list, which is used to set a background color for Workbench Explorer as well as any open tabs (optional). With this feature, you can tell at a glance which connection you are connected to (see Color Coding Connections).

• Use Credentials For WebAuth—Select to allow credentials to be used for the DiveLine Web Authentication URL. Defaults to False and is only applicable for servers using Web Server authentication.

  NOTE:

  • When unchecked, Workbench uses any stored credentials to authenticate against DiveLine directly as OWN authentication.

  • When unchecked and there are no stored credentials, authentication proceeds through the DLCGI object.
  • When checked, Workbench uses any stored credentials to connect to the configured DLCGI URL.

• Enter Comments Here—Enter a comment to indicate the purpose of this connection (recommended).

• Quick Connection—Select the check box if you want to include this connection in the quick launch dialog box.

  Use of this option adds a Quick Launch Settings section to the Connections Details.

  • Connection Icon—Select an icon from the pull-down list to appear on the quick connect button.
  • Project—Select a project on the server if you want to open it as part of the quick connect.

To edit an existing connection:

1. Select the connection in the list.

   The connection details appear in the Connection Details pane

2. Edit the fields.
3. Select Connect , click away, or press Enter to commit the edits.

To delete a connection:

1. Select the connection in the list
2. Right-click and select Delete (red X).
3. Click Yes to confirm the deletion.
