Working with Tabs

This topic describes the various tab types that appear in the Workbench Main Window Space depending on the open file type.

There are two general tab types: graphical and text editor. The View Switcher allows you to switch between the graphical editor and text editor views of a file in one tab. In addition, for some file types, a Run History icon allows you to view details of recent runs. For those file types that only have one view, the view switcher icons do not appear. See View Switcher for more information.

The tabbed interface behaves much like browser interfaces.

The numbers below reference the numbers in the graphic.

1. Drag and drop tabs to rearrange according to your needs.

   TIP: A tool tip appears when the pointer is over a tab, which displays the project path to the file's location, starting with the project name.

2. Click the X in a tab to close it.

3. An asterisk appears next to the file name in the tab when it has changed and needs saving.

4. Use the left or right arrow buttons on the far right of the tabbed row to bring back into view any tabs that have gone off the screen. Click the down arrow button to view a list of all open tabs.

You can move between tabs using keyboard shortcuts:

• Alt-Left Arrow—Moves to the next tab on the left.

• Alt-Right Arrow—Moves to the next tab on the right.

NOTE:

• You can use the middle-mouse button click on a tab to close that tab.
• You can set connection preferences to color tabs according to the connection.
• If another user or process makes changes to a file you have open in Workbench, you are notified when you bring the tab into focus and given the opportunity to reload the file with those external changes.
• When you close a tab, focus goes to the last viewed tab.
