Determining the Breaklevel Type and Location for an Item

After you have converted a dive window to a report using a report style option, you may want to continue editing report items by changing the breaklevel type (dimension or page) and the location (head, body, or tail). The Breaklevel tab on the Edit Item dialog box provides options that allow you to Closededit the report position for an item (for example, change the position of the report title).

The following procedure shows how to determine the default breaklevel type and location for an item and what happens to the appearance of the report if you change the location to a different position, such as moving the report title from the head to the head2 position.

Complete the following steps:

  1. Select a server with a project that contains a sales model with dimensions and summaries, such as:

    • Supplier, Brand, and Ship Month
    • Cases, Revenue, and Cost

For illustration purposes, this procedure refers to a sales model called sales_90day.

  2. In ProDiver, locate and open sales_90day.mdl.

  3. On the Console, double-click Supplier to open a basic tabular dive window.

  4. Click the MultiTab icon.

  5. On the Console, double-click Brand and Company to open a Closedmultitab Dive window.

  6. To Closedopen the Default Report dialog box, click the Report icon. Type MultiTab Report Sample in the Title field.

  7. Click OK to close the dialog box, and click the Lock/Unlock icon Closedto unlock the report.

  8. Double-click A-Treat Bottling Company to open the ClosedEdit Item dialog box.

This example shows two open Edit Item dialog boxes (one with the Data tab and the other with the Breaklevel tab) that show the following attributes of the Supplier dimension selected in the unlocked report:

    • The item type selected (all Supplier values) is a dimension value
    • The dimension name is Supplier
    • The breaklevel type is Dimension (Supplier)
    • The breaklevel location is Body
  9. Double-click any item in an unlocked report to open the Edit Item dialog box and determine the breaklevel type and location for that item.

The defaults for breaklevel type and location in combination with the default settings for the Position and Style tabs determine item placement in a report. To change the position of an item, you may need to change the default settings in a number of places. Also, while changing the position and attributes of an item, you might decide to add new items to enhance the content or appearance of a report.
