Grouping Data

The group feature allows you to combine two or more rows in an active window for analysis as a single unit.

Group

When items are grouped, ProDiver automatically applies a focus to the grouped items; the other rows are hidden. You can create only one group in a dive window. However, you can create additional groups at different levels in a dive path.

On a tabular display, when grouping is in effect, the first row label shows Group instead of Totals because the numbers in that row are a sum of the grouped rows, not the entire dimension.

Sample showing grouped data.

In this example, Sales Team Alpha is grouped with Sales Team Delta. You can dive on any of the three rows.

To use the group feature on a tabular display:

  1. Select the rows that you want to group together.
  2. Do one of the following:

    • On the menu bar, select Organize > Group.
    • On the toolbar, click the Group icon group icon..
  3. Focus is applied to the grouped items and the unselected rows are removed from the dive window.

To revert to the ungrouped view do one of the following:

  • On the menu bar, select Organize > Stop Group.
  • On the toolbar, click the Stop Group icon stop group icon.

Group with Others

The group with others feature is similar to the group feature in that it allows you to combine two or more rows on an active window for analysis as a single unit. ProDiver automatically applies a focus to the grouped items. However, instead of removing the unselected rows, they are summed as a separate unit called Others.

Example showing group with others.

In this example, Sales Team Alpha is grouped with Sales Team Delta. You can dive on any of the four rows.

To use the group with others feature:

  1. On a tabular display, select the rows that you want to group together.
  2. On the menu bar, select Organize > Group with Others.

Focus is applied to the grouped items and the unselected rows are combined into a unit called Others.

To revert to the ungrouped view, do one of the following:

  • On the menu bar, select Organize > Stop Group.
  • On the toolbar, click the Stop Group icon stop group icon
