The Diving Process

Diving is the process of retrieving specific data from a vast collection of data.

The Diver developer creates either a cBase or model that holds your data. The data is grouped into classifications called dimensions. Optionally, dimensions can be organized into categories. You can use dimensions to sort or filter data that appears in the dive window. After a dive, you can delve further into the data to view progressively detailed information.

Categories and dimensions for open models and cBases are listed in the ClosedConsole pane.

Console.

You can use the Search Dimensions option to filter the dimensions listed on the console.

Example: Suppose one of your business suppliers is running a month-long incentive program and you want to use your sales cBase to track sales of that product.

Instead of searching through thousands of sales records, you can narrow the search by diving on subsets of data. In this case, narrow your search by supplier, brand, ship date, and then salesperson. The first dive is done on the entire cBase, and the rest are done on increasingly smaller subsets of the cBase data.
