Cascade Printing

When the active window is the result of a cascade dive or QuickView dive, cascade printing allows you to select one or more parent dimensions and batch-print the resulting dive output for every combination of values of the selected parent dimensions.

To cascade print:

  1. Create a dive window that you want to cascade print.

  2. On the menu bar, select File > Print > Cascade Print.

The Cascade Print Closeddialog box opens, with the parent dimensions listed under QuickViews and Windows, in the Available box.

Cascade print dialog box showing available parent dimensions.

  3. Move the dimensions that you want to use for the cascade to the Selected box.

  4. To print the results of the cascade dive to your default printer, proceed to step 6.

  5. To save the results of the cascade dive as a pdf file, select the Save to PDF check box, and choose one of the following options:

    • Use Dimension Values for filenames—The output files are named after the dimension values. For example, ShipYear=2016.pdf
    • Use Dimension Index for filenames—The output files are named after the dimension names, followed by a sequential number, starting at 001. For example, ShipYear001.pdf
    • Specify filename—Specify a dimension name as a variable in the PDF Filename box, and the output files are named after the dimension values. For example, 2016.pdf.
    • Skip "All Values"—Do not include the QuickView option All Values.
    • Skip Empty Windows—Do not include blank dimension values. DI recommends that you select this option.
    • Embed Fonts—Includes font information in the pdf file. However, doing so dramatically increases the file size.
    • PDF Output Directory—Specify the path to the directory in which to place the pdf file.
    • PDF Filename Prefix—Specify any characters that you want to precede the file name.
    • PDF Filename—To enter the dimension name as a variable, prefix the dimension name with a dollar sign character. If the dimension name has any spaces or characters other than alphanumeric or underscores, you must enclose it between parentheses. For example, $(Ship Year).
  6. Click OK.

    The cascade files print.
