Adding a Dimension Value Item

You can add a dimension value to a report if that dimension value appears in the last dive window. You can customize a report by including additional dimension columns and row values. To add an eligible dimension value to a report, click the Add Item icon in the toolbar of an unlocked report to display a list of dimension values.

In addition to adding a dimension value, the Add Item dialog box also contains the following report configuration options:

Skip Repeated Values—To improve the readability of a report, Closedthis option displays the name of a dimension value once and does not repeat it on subsequent lines. For example, in a multitab report where dimension columns and values exist side by side (for example, Salesperson and Ship Month), the application lists the name of the first salesperson once (Agate) and leaves the remaining cells, which would have repeated the salesperson name, blank until the report reaches the name of the second salesperson (Anderson).

Start on new page ClosedPrints information on a new page when the report encounters a new dimension value. For example, in a multitab, whenever the dimension value changes (for example, salesperson names), the report automatically starts a new page. So, if Agate is the first salesperson and Anderson is the second, the report prints summary information for Anderson on the second page, even if there is still available space on the first page.

Skip Others Row—When selected, does not display the Others row if the Group with Others option is enabled in the underlying tabular.

This procedure uses the report created with the Creating the Baseline Report for Add Items Tasks topic to illustrate how to add the dimension values for Salesperson.

Complete the following steps:

  1. Open the marker file containing the baseline report with deleted items. Alternatively, open the marker you saved from Adding a Dimension Name Item to view the progression of adding back all of the items deleted from the baseline report.

  2. To display the report in edit mode, click the Lock/Unlock icon.

  3. To open the ClosedAdd Item dialog box, click the Add Item icon.

  4. In the Item Type list, select Dimension Value.

  5. In the Dimension list, select Salesperson.

  6. Click OK to Closedadd Salesperson values to the report.

Notice that Agate, the first dimension value, is out of position and that all of the Salesperson values do not fit on the report.

  7. To configure this item, double-click Agate, Paul to open the Edit Item dialog box and perform the following actions:

    • In the Data tab, select Skip Repeated Values.
    • In the Breaklevel tab, set the Breaklevel Type to Ship Month and the Location to Body.
    • In the Position tab, set the Column to Column B.
    • In the Style tab, set the Style Name to Breaklevel-3.
  8. Click OK to display Closedthe report window with the dimension values for Salesperson in the proper position and with the correct attributes.

NOTE: You can save this report as a marker and continue with Adding a Summary Name Item to build back all of the items deleted from the baseline report.
