Designing a Portal

As a DivePort administrator, you must contemplate how to organize and customize the portal. Before you begin, consider the following:

  • Who are the users? Are they organized in groups or spread across the organization?
  • What information needs to be delivered? How frequently?
  • Where is the data needed? Will it go to multiple divisions, departments, or regions?

  • When and how often will the data be updated and accessed?

This information can give you a general idea of what you need to start building your portal. For example, this can help you decide if using environments is appropriate, how to organize the pages for ease of navigation by the users, how best to lay out the pages, how the portlets are presented, how permissions will be managed, and the general look-and-feel you want to present in the DivePort portal.
