What are some of this year’s hot topics? What is Dimensional Insight up to at the show? Read on to learn all about the first day at HIMSS19.

HIMSS19 theme: Champions of Health Unite

The theme of this year’s HIMSS event is “Champions of Health Unite.” It’s all about celebrating the people who power the successes in healthcare technology. For our “champions” at Dimensional Insight, the show is about learning from the successes and failures of others, and meeting up with both new contacts and current customers.

Here’s a brief movie I made about some of the highlights of the first day of HIMSS19. (With thanks to my 12-year-old who gave me a crash course on iMovie so I could put this together!)

Data quality is paramount

While a lot of talk at HIMSS19 this year is about empowering healthcare consumers and patient engagement, there has also been a lot of discussion about data quality. Several of the sessions have talked about how a trusted base of data is essential for outcomes improvement.

One of the sessions I attended talked about the creation of pediatric registries at Children’s National Hospital in Washington, DC. The presenter, Brian Jacobs, talked about how data quality was incredibly important in order to create the measures for each disease registry. Without quality data, clinicians don’t have a baseline for improvement. This sentiment was echoed in other discussions throughout the day when discussing topics such as population health.

FHIR and data interoperability

In addition, there has been a lot of talk about FHIR at HIMSS19. In the morning’s keynote, Seema Verma, CMS Administrator, and Aneesh Chopra, former U.S. CTO, talked about how we are moving more toward data interoperability, especially now that CMS has embraced the FHIR standard. They discussed how agreeing on FHIR can put an end to the fight over data standards and help move towards lowering costs and providing patients with greater access to their medical information.

Dimensional Insight at HIMSS19

On Monday night, we attended the Best in KLAS awards dinner, where we received recognition for being this year’s Best in KLAS in healthcare business intelligence and analytics. This is our sixth year winning the award out of the nine years that KLAS has awarded it in this category. We all had a great time at the event, and congratulate the other Best in KLAS and Category Leader winners!

If you’d like to meet with us at HIMSS19, we are in booth #4358 where we are demonstrating our Diver Platform and suite of applications that help improve outcomes for healthcare organizations. We hope you can stop by and see our latest technology!
