Leading technology publication, Information Management, includes article from DI President and CEO, Fred Powers, who addresses the steps an organization must take to ensure their BI solution is capable of driving ROI.
Dimensional Insight announced today that the September online edition of Information Management's Special Report on Business Intelligence included an article authored by DI's President and CEO, Fred Powers. The article entitled "It's Not About TCO; Focus on Business Value", was featured in the Special Reports section entitled, Pervasive Business Intelligence, and outlines key factors to consider when determining the value of a Business Intelligence solution.
"When implementing a business intelligence solution we need to examine derived worth versus cost," begins Powers. "Although you cannot only assess these items at face-value, there is a deeper layer of information that needs to be reviewed and scrutinized to obtain the true value of any tool." Powers uses the article to discuss key measures of consideration that should be accounted for prior to deploying a business intelligence tool. He goes on to say, "Getting value out of a BI solution is not necessarily a technology problem; it can also be a business process problem; To achieve success, companies, must take a good look at how business requirements map to their internal processes."
Fred Powers co-founded Dimensional Insight, Inc. in 1989 with Stan Zanarotti. Prior to establishing DI, Powers served as a U.S. Naval Officer at the Pentagon where he designed the Naval Command Center's first graphical presentation system for understanding readiness and asset data. As a defense contractor, Fred engineered database development projects relating to the status of forces and at Honeywell, he designed information systems for business processes relating to sales, marketing, and service.
Powers holds a BS in Engineering Mechanics from the University of Wisconsin, Madison. He has lectured at MIT Sloan School of Management, Boston University, Babson College, Sao Paolo University, and New York University on the application of dashboards, reporting and analytics technology in business.
