ABOUT THE EVENING
DIUC attendees will be treated to a memorable evening at Rosecliff. This includes private access to the property, the option during the cocktail hour to tour the 2011 wedding dress exhibit currently on display, a three-course seated dinner, and a cabaret performance during the night. Proper dress is required and transportation will be provided to and from the mansion. We hope you can join us for our most spectacular kickoff event to date!
THE HISTORY OF ROSECLIFF
Commissioned by Nevada silver heiress Theresa Fair Oelrichs in 1899, architect Stanford White modeled Rosecliff after the Grand Trianon, the garden retreat of French kings at Versailles. After the house was completed in 1902, at a reported cost of $2.5 million, Mrs. Oelrichs hosted fabulous entertainment here, including a fairy tale dinner and a party featuring famed magician Harry Houdini.
Rosecliff is now preserved through the generosity of its last private owners, Mr. and Mrs. J. Edgar Monroe, of New Orleans. They gave the house, its furnishings, and an endowment to the Preservation Society in 1971. Rosecliff has also been the backdrop to several films shot on location, including "The Great Gatsby", "True Lies", "Amistad", and "27 Dresses".
While a majority of the DIUC agenda calls for casual dress, there will be a strict dress code enforced at Rosecliff on the night of the kick-off event. Acceptable dress would include business professional or cocktail attire such as dress pants, collared shirts, sports coats, dresses, and dress shoes. Black tie is not required. Sneakers, jeans, flip-flops, and t-shirts will not be allowed at the kick-off event.
