How to Contribute

Community members are encouraged to contribute content to the site. The following information provides information on how to enter and edit content:

Types of Content

There are four types of content that community members can contribute to the site:

  • Forum Entries - for facilitating discussions on specific topics
  • Blog Posts - concise comments that are three to five paragraphs in length and posted by Dimensional Insight or other community members by invitation
  • Library Articles - for posting structured content that may include pdf attachments
  • Replies - each of the other content types provide for opportunities to Reply

Entering Content

Content for Forum Entries and Library Articles can be entered by choosing the appropriate link from the Add Content box. For each of these content types:

  • Enter a Title for the posting (the more concise, the better!)
  • Select a Topic (if an existing topic doesn't describe your posting, select General.)
  • Use the rich text editor to enter your content. The Normal style should be sufficient for formatting. You'll also be able to include simple formatting option such as numbered and bulleted lists. The emphasis is on the content, not the format, so don't worry about trying to make the formatting fancy.
  • You can include links to web sites by highlighting your text and choosing the link button on the editor menu bar, which will allow you to specify a URL.
  • For Library Articles only you can attach a pdf document (up to 10 MB in size) by choosing the File attachments link below the edit box, navigating to a pdf document on your computer and choosing the Upload selection.
  • The final step is to save your content by clicking on the Save button below the text box. Don't forget to do this as your content will be lost if you navigate away from the page without saving it.

The process for entering Blog Posts is similar to entering a Forum Entry, however since Blog Posts are by invitation from Dimensional Insight, you'll see an additional box labeled Privileged Content on the left hand panel. Choose Add Blog Entry to contribute a guest Blog Post.

Replies can be entered by selecting the Post a Reply link at the bottom of each posting of any of the other types. The process for entering a reply uses the same rich text editor as the other content types.

You user name will be included with all posts and replies automatically.

Other Text Entry Options

As an alternative to the rich text editor you can also cut and paste content from a plain text editor or a word processor such as Microsoft Word. Links as well as numbered and bulleted lists will be preserved.

Revising Your Content

You can revise your postings of any of the content types once you've performed the initial save, provided that you were the originator of the content.  Just select the Edit box (next to View) at the top of the page, make your changes, and Save. This includes deleting the content entirely.
